Your in-flight ATC copilot.

Clearance AI is a non-certified, advisory iPhone and iPad app that transcribes ATC on-device and tracks every clearance on a live scoreboard for GA pilots flying with ATC. It runs alongside your EFB, not instead of it. Everything happens on-device, so it keeps listening with zero signal.

What the in-flight ATC copilot does

Six things it's built to get right, every one grounded in FAA phraseology and none of it a substitute for your own judgment.

Catch every clearance as ATC says it

On-device transcription runs continuously and extracts altitude, heading, frequency, squawk, taxi, hold-short, and approach clearances onto a live scoreboard the moment a controller speaks them, each matched against 43 clearance types from JO 7110.65 phraseology.

Know the second ATC calls your tail number

A visual and haptic alert fires the instant a controller says your call sign, so a transmission in a busy or noisy cockpit does not slip by.

Read clearances built on the controller's own words

Every extracted clearance is matched against JO 7110.65 phraseology, the same wording your controller is trained to use, so what lands on the scoreboard reads the way ATC actually talks.

Check the scoreboard without opening the app

A Live Activity mirrors your current clearance to the lock screen and Dynamic Island, so the latest instruction stays visible while you're heads-down flying the airplane.

Skip typing in your flight plan

Import a flight plan as a .fpl file shared from ForeFlight, and Clearance AI uses your route and destination to prime frequency, altimeter, and waypoint suggestions.

Try the scoreboard before you fly with the copilot

Free's manual scoreboard: tap to log what ATC gives you, by hand.

Wire it in once. It listens the whole flight.

No moving map, no navigation source — just a second set of ears that runs alongside your EFB.

1

Wire up once

A simple audio splitter taps your headset audio into your iPhone or iPad. Step-by-step wiring instructions live in Settings.

2

Set up the flight

Enter your call sign and flight plan once — by hand, or imported as an .fpl shared from ForeFlight — so the copilot knows your route, filed altitude, and destination.

3

Listen and track

Every transmission is transcribed on-device and checked against your call sign. Clearances land on the scoreboard the moment ATC says them.

4

Track it everywhere

Every clearance is mirrored to your lock screen and Dynamic Island with a Live Activity, so it stays visible even when you are not looking at the app.

Who it is for

Built for the pilot flying the airplane and talking to ATC alone.

Instrument students and IFR pilots

You are copying SIDs, STARs, holds, and full CRAFT clearance-delivery readbacks while flying the airplane, and one missed digit on an altitude or a route changes the flight.

VFR pilots in busy airspace

Class B and C towered fields hand you sequencing, taxi, and hold-short instructions fast, and a second set of ears catches what a single read misses.

Single-pilot GA operators

There's no one else in the cockpit to write down the clearance while you fly, so the scoreboard becomes the kneeboard you don't have to look away to use.

Free to try. Pay for the live copilot.

The scoreboard is free to try, no account required. Pro unlocks the full live copilot — continuous listening, automatic extraction, and call-sign alerts.

There is no public App Store listing yet. Free gives you the manual scoreboard — tap to log what ATC gives you, by hand, with no account required. Pro adds the full live copilot: continuous on-device transcription, automatic clearance extraction, call-sign alerts, flight-plan import, and a lock-screen Live Activity. Pro pricing is set in the app, and the annual plan includes a 14-day free trial.

Questions pilots ask

What does Clearance AI do?

Clearance AI listens to ATC through your headset, transcribes it on-device, and extracts clearances (altitude, heading, frequency, squawk, taxi, hold-short, approach, and more) onto a live scoreboard the moment a controller says them, matched against 43 clearance types from JO 7110.65 phraseology. It runs beside your EFB and never navigates.

Does it talk to ATC or read back a clearance for me?

No. Clearance AI only listens; it never transmits, and it never issues a readback. Every extracted clearance is a memory aid and cross-check, not an instruction to act on. You still read back to the controller yourself, and you remain responsible for confirming every clearance you receive.

Is Clearance AI FAA-certified, or is it an EFB?

No. Clearance AI is a non-certified, advisory app. It is not a certified EFB, does not replace ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot, and never navigates or commands. It runs beside your existing EFB as a second set of ears, and the pilot in command remains responsible for every clearance.

Does it work with my headset?

Yes. A simple audio splitter taps the audio you already hear in your headset into your iPhone or iPad's input, with step-by-step wiring instructions in Settings. Every iOS 26 device supports on-device transcription once you're wired up.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes, for listening. Transcription and clearance extraction run entirely on-device using a custom aviation speech model, so the live copilot keeps working with zero signal. The offline airport data pack and the manual scoreboard also work without a connection; only post-flight uploads need Wi-Fi.

When does Clearance AI launch?

Clearance AI is in testing ahead of its App Store launch, with no public release date yet. There is no public App Store listing yet. Join the waitlist if you want a note when one exists.

What do I get with the Free tier?

Free gives you the manual scoreboard: tap to log what ATC gives you, by hand, no account and no live listening required. It's a genuine way to try the scoreboard before deciding whether to add the live copilot.

What happens if it mishears a clearance?

Transcription and AI extraction can be wrong, the same as any listening aid. That's why Clearance AI never issues an authoritative readback: every field on the scoreboard is a cross-check you confirm against what you actually heard, and the pilot in command stays responsible for every clearance.

Where the content comes from

  • FAA Order JO 7110.65, Air Traffic Control — the clearance-type grammar every extraction is matched against.
  • The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) — phraseology for approach clearances, flight following, ATIS codes, and emergency squawk codes.
  • FAA NASR facility data — runway idents, frequencies, and field elevation for the offline airport pack.
  • FAA Airport Mapping (AM_Taxiway) data — taxiway designators used in the offline airport pack.
  • FAA d-TPP procedure data — SID, STAR, and instrument approach codes and chart names for the offline airport pack.

Clearance AI is a non-certified, advisory copilot — not a navigation source or a certified EFB. It runs alongside your EFB, and the pilot in command remains responsible for every clearance and readback.
